It's time for the official social event of the spring and the unofficial kickoff of summer in North Myrtle Beach at the 10th Annual Mayfest on Main celebration.
Featuring live concerts, great food and drinks, arts and crafts vendors, and children's activities, Mayfest on Main attracts an estimated 15,000 tourists and locals to the Horseshoe, McLean Park and the corner of Ocean Drive and Main Street. It's a full day of family-friendly entertainment and, best of all, it's free. The festivities run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 9, with live music taking the main stage at noon.
This year’s headliner is the iconic classic-rock band The Guess Who, which had huge hits in the '60s and '70s with “American Woman”, “No Sugar Tonight” and “These Eyes”. Opening acts, in order of scheduled appearance, are '80s cover band Blue Monday, ballad singer Barbara Lewis, and beach music by the Carolina Soul Band, which will have folks shagging in the streets. Attendees who don't plan to dance all day should bring a beach chair or blanket.
The community stage at McLean Park offers a series of youth concerts and performances from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The nearby city park features a Kids Zone with amusement rides, inflatables and other fun activities. Let the little ones play while you shop at the more than 200 vendor tents filled with unique items, such as handmade jewelry, paintings, glassware and other works of art and craftsmanship.
Feast on hot dogs, enjoy a cold drink and make the transition from spring to summer in true North Myrtle Beach fashion at Mayfest on Main. For more information, visit http://parks.nmb.us/Page.aspx?id=13.
