They say the best things in life are free, and that’s certainly the case with the free summer fireworks shows that light up the night sky on the Grand Strand.
The free pyrotechnics displays get under way with the May 23 Fireworks Extravaganza at Broadway at the Beach, which kicks off a summer filled with free shows. Here’s the 2015 lineup:
* Barefoot Landing: North Myrtle Beach visitors can catch pyrotechnics displays every Monday night on the boardwalk that surrounds Barefoot Lake. A pre-fireworks parade leads up to the show at 10:15 p.m. This year’s schedule runs from June 1 through August 31, followed by a special Labor Day weekend show on Saturday, Sept. 5.
* Broadway at the Beach: This Myrtle Beach hot spot lights the fuse on the 2015 fireworks calendar with a big season opener on Saturday, May 23. On Tuesday nights throughout the summer, the pyrotechnics are launched from June 2 through August 25. Broadway adds Friday nights to the lineup at midsummer (June 19 through August 14,) with a special Labor Day weekend season finale on Sept. 5.
* Myrtle Beach Boardwalk: Sit on the beach or watch from the railing of the 1.2-mile wooden walkway as fireworks are launched from Pier 14 and explode over the ocean. Visit Plyler Park before the pyrotechnics display starts for a free local concert. All shows start at 10 p.m. and will be held every Wednesday from June 3 through Sept. 1.
* Myrtle Beach Pelicans: The new Advanced Class A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs may have minor-league talent, but they also have big-league fireworks after select games this season. The shows begin about 15 minutes after the final out, usually about 10 p.m. The 2015 schedule is June 7, 14 and 21, July 2, 3, 7, 9, 12, 19, 26, and 30, and August 6, 9, 16 and 30.
